Kidney Care ("the App") is developed and maintained independently by the Kidney Care team. This policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your choices.
Kidney Care is an educational and support tool for people managing chronic kidney disease and dialysis, built with hands-on clinical experience to help patients understand the phosphorus, sodium, and potassium content of foods. Contact: support@kidneycareapp.org.
a) Information you provide directly, stored only on your device (not on our servers):
This data is stored locally using your device's storage and is deleted automatically if you uninstall the App. We do not have access to it.
b) Photos you take or select for food scanning:
When you use the food-scanning feature, the photo you capture or choose is sent securely to our backend server, which forwards it to Google's Gemini AI service for analysis, and returns a nutritional risk assessment (phosphorus/sodium/potassium). The photo is processed to generate this result and is not stored permanently on our servers after the analysis completes.
c) Automatically collected technical data:
Our backend (hosted on Google Firebase / Google Cloud) may log basic technical information (such as timestamps and error logs) for the sole purpose of maintaining service reliability and security. This does not include your name or health data.
We do not sell, rent, or use your data for advertising. We do not share your personal profile data with any third party.
Food photos are processed using Google's Gemini AI API through our secure backend. Google's handling of data sent through this API is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and Google AI/Gemini API Additional Terms. No other third party receives your data.
Profile and fluid-tracking data lives only on your device. You can delete it at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling the App. Food images sent for analysis are not retained after processing. To request deletion of any backend logs associated with your use of the service, contact us at the email above.
The App is intended for adult dialysis and CKD patients and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Kidney Care provides general educational guidance generated by AI and does not replace professional medical or dietary advice. Always consult your nephrologist or renal dietitian before making decisions about your diet or treatment.
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data. Since most personal data stays on your device under your control, you can exercise these rights directly by managing or deleting the App's local data. We use industry-standard measures to protect data in transit (encrypted connections) between the App and our backend. No API keys or credentials are stored inside the App itself.
We may update this policy as the App evolves. The "Effective date" above will reflect the latest revision. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
